The other day I found an image of a butterfly. It is on
a tag tied to the handle of a gift bag. Nothing special really, but it could be a catalyst for an idea. Something is brewing in the back of my
head that may manifest itself into the creation of a new painting. I pick up a
lot of scraps of paper and other assorted small objects all of the time with
the idea that I may use them at some point down the road. More often then not find their skeletal
remains in the pocket of my jeans after laundry day. But every once in a while
I come across something that feels special in some way and I get a strong
feeling that something needs to be done with it. If you are an artist, you know
what I'm talking about.
When these things happen I am never sure what to do. I
usually just start pushing the paint around a little bit, then at some point,
I will glue the object on to the surface of the picture, and let my instincts
take over. This is my plan with the butterfly and I will begin tomorrow. I will
keep you posted on how things go. I may even post an in progress picture or
two. We shall see what we shall see.
